Before the birth of Oedipus, one of The Greek God Oracles had already delivered the prophecy to King Laius about his son Oedipus that, he will kill him and marry his own mother. The circumstances which rely on the future said by The Greek God Oracle to King Laius. So, he gets afraid and scared about his future. King Laius and his wife Queen Jocasta decided to kill their own baby. King Laius tied up his baby's hands and told his servant to throw the baby into the river. The servant's sympathy and emotions come towards the baby, he decided to leave the baby in the mountainside to die. Suddenly, a shepherd passing by the mountainside found the baby and he gifted to the King of Corinth Polybus and Queen Merope. Then they brought up and treated him as their own son. They gave the child name,” Oedipus” which means ‘swollen foot’.

The year passed away, King Laius and Queen Jocasta didn’t know about their growing child, Oedipus. They thought that their baby died. One day, Oedipus went for a drink with his friend and his friend revealed the truth about him. To investigate the truth, he often went to the temple of Apollo. He learned from the Oracle at Delphi of the prophecy that, he would kill his father and marry his own mother. Oedipus believed that he would kill King Polybus and marry Queen Merope, unknowing of the truth. He leaves the city Corinth and forwards towards the city of Thebes. Before, he entered the city of Thebes. He has some argument with an old man across the road, who is attended by his servants. That argument turned into the fight which killed the old man along with his servants, but he was unaware of the old man who was his real father King Laius. Finally, he reached the City of Thebes where he found something unusual and terrible. He solved the riddle of Sphinx. Sphinx, “a type of monster with whose hand of a woman and the body of a lioness, the wings of an eagle and headed tail”.

So, the truth reveals in front of Oedipus Where he finds, King Laius was his real father and his present wife Queen Jocasta was his real mother. After that, Queen Jocasta hung herself in her room by knowing the truth. About Oedipus, he pinned his eyes and blinded himself.
